ESRI ARCMAP CHECKLIST
GIS is the most important component and why I wanted to intern with AccuWeather to satisfy my final requirement to graduate from my Masters program at Wichita State University. Beyond being able to learn and hone my GIS skills, I wanted the access to big data and AccuWeather's weather data. It has been a definite learning curve going through tens of thousands of data points to working with millions of data points. Working with this large of data requires different skills and processes that were new to me so that typical operations within ArcGIS don't take days and days to run. Below is the list I worked from to re-familiarize myself with ArcGIS operations and to expand my skills on operations I have not used as much. I will demonstrate the usage of the checklist items through a few different projects. Projects will include a tornado track analysis for AccuWeather that combines tornado data and mocked up retail store information, and an analysis for determining best locations to search for archaeological sites and artifacts along and near Kansas rivers, lakes, and streams due to soil erosion from rainfall based on both actual rain fall and predicted rainfall for planning future locations to search. My Dive Bar Project also uses ArcGIS to determine if a drinking establishment is a dive bar and that is available as a separate project under my portfolio.
